Archief voor sixth scale

Thor is the fourth announcement in the Hot Toys Avengers line.
The figure looks very much like the version from it’s own movie ‘Thor‘. There are subtle differences, however.
Thor is played by Chris Helmsworth. This is the second sculpt Hot Toys releases with the actor’s likeness. But it doesn’t really look more like Chris Helmsworth than the first version.
The first sculpt wasn’t perfect, but was more alike. What I do like is the seriousness in the expression instead of a blank stare. The head is smaller, which makes this new Thor look more impressive.
This Thor is more muscular, his armor seems to be made of more layers, his clothes are blueish instead of black. However off in terms of Chris likeness, the headskulpt is a good ‘Thor’. And let’s hope he doesn’t have a loose ankle as the previous release.
.
I might pass on this one, as in I’ve already got the Thor from his own movie, and I’ve got to save up for a Loki, Hulk and new Black Widow. And with regards  his accessories, or rather say, lacking of, this figure seems to have a deep prize.  Sideshow has him for pre-order at $200.00.

Hot Toys is proud to present the collectible figure of another superhero from the Marvel Studios – the 1/6th scale Thor Limited Edition Collectible Figurine from the upcoming The Avengers movie. The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the movie, highlighting the newly developed head sculpt, muscular body, highly detailed costume, accessories and weapon. The Thor collectible stands approximately 32 cm tall, which is closer to the 1/6th scale of the movie character.

Soon we have a Hulk.
If there’s one figure from the Hot Toys Avengers line I want, it’s the Hulk.

There’s much debate on whether he’ll have a rubber body or not.
According a recent interview by HK Figure Club with Howard Chan, Howard said Hulk is in progress, the body will not be fully rubber.
This still could mean the upper body and arms can be made of rubber.

Although looking fantastic, rubber has the tendency to fold ugly, ripple and tear with posing and wither over time. I would like my high-paying collectible to last longer than one year.
Time will tell.

Other highlights from the interview with Howard Chan are:

The third announcement of collectible figurines from the Avengers movie, is Captain America.
Released by Hot Toys before for it’s own movie “Captain America: The First Avenger“, this time the captain has a modern outfit and a fully sculpted head of Chris Evans who plays the character in both movies.
It’s the first time Hot Toys releases a sculpt of an actor with his mouth open. Or in this case with gritting teeth. I feel the likeness of Chris Evans is so-so. It has something off… But I like the sculpt.
I really liked Cap’s WOII outfit. It made him look tough. This new costume has some getting used to it. And I’m still not used to it. It’s is very ‘Captain Amerca’ and more true to the comics that it WOII variant, but is doesn’t make him look moere like a ‘leader’ or is impressive.
.
As a Hot Toys figure, I am very much in doubt to get him or not. I already have the “First Avenger” Captain America. Which I really like. The Avengers Captain does have some nice features the Cap I already have doesn’t has. Like the sculpt, the battle damaged shield, better articulation and a modern look. Looking at some of the promo photos the outfit around abdomen does bend or fold in a strange way when posing the figure. It doesn’t look nice.
.
I guess it depends on the price. If within the same price range as Nick Fury, I might consider buying. Fact is, he’s pretty different from the previous release. In the meantime Hot Toys released a teaser for their new Avengers Thor figure. I seems to me he’s more of the same of the one I have. The sculpt has to be a lot better for me considering buying a new Thor. We’ll just have to wait and see. For this Captain America. I wanna wait what the new Black Widow and Iron Man mark VII will look like.

After Nick Fury, Hawkeye is Hot Toys second announcement of collectible figurines from the Avengers movie, coming out this april 26th.
With an incredible likeness of Jeremy Renner, again this is a hit-and-run from Hot Toys.
The figure is pretty straight-forward. But I love the costume, and I can expect Hot Toys to be keen on the detailing.
.
However, the figure is not as iconic as Iron man, Thor, Captain America or even Black Widow. And he little resembles his comic book counterpart. Not that’s mandatory, but still…
I’m more likely to pick up this figure before Nick Fury, but just barely.
With Fury being released in June and Hawkeye in July, I’ve gotta think with my economics in mind. Around the same price tag as Fury, €180, It’s still expensive. I have Iron Man mark II coming up this april and an Iron Monger and Iron Man mark 1 in September. So I gotta take it easy.
.
It would be nice though, to see Avengers figure announcements every month from Hot Toys.
Who do you think will be next? Black Widow? Captain America? Except for the Hulk, the other Avenger members all had their releases already. I bet Hulk will be announced last.
However Hot Toys doesn’t seem to waste any time over this line. We are still waiting for the complete announcement of Bane from the new Batman film. The Dark Knight Rises.

What a great news! Hot Toys will be releasing figures based on the Avengers movie, coming out this april (Europe).
First of the line is SHIELD director Nick Fury, performed by non other than Samual L. Jackson.
.
This is a fairly basic figure, so I am not sure I’m willing to pay €180 for this figure. Sure it as some accessories, I just don’t find the figure that exciting. I feel the head-sculpt of Jackson could be better. His head is too thick. It would be ok just to see the figure as Nick Fury instead of Jackson. But if I am paying this kind of money, the likeness should be more accurate.
.
But he is initiator of the Avengers Initiative and director of SHIELD. And that would be great if you get figures of Agent Coulson and Maria Hill. However, I think that would be unlikely.
So that leave to the one really plus: One (1) silver suitcase with light-up Tesseract (Cosmic Cube) and patterns inside (battery operated).
.
I love the Avengers and I am already assembling them with my Hot Toys collection. So it would be cool to have Nick Fury besides my Black Widow and maybe Hawkeye, Coulson and Hill.
I feel I can wait with pre-ordering for more announcements being made and just make that decision when this figure gets released.

This news has me in doubt to buy this Red Skull figure or not.
I loved Hugo Weaving performance in The Captain America movie. And the Red Skull is the most iconic villain of Captain America.
I already have Hot Toys Captain America (review up soon), so it would be nice to let them face off.
The sculpt of Hugo Weaving is most remarkable, very beautiful, as is the sculpt of the red skull. The overall feel of this figure is nice, but…
.
…On the other hand, Red Skull never intrigued me as a villain. Also, having a nazi, or a man in a black leather trench-coat at display somehow bothers me.
.
If I would buy this figure it would be soley on the sculpt of Hugo Weaving.
And maybe the Tesseract.
.
But would that alone be enough to justify to spend €185 on this figure?

Having missed the first release of the mark I from Hot Toys, this is welcomed news.
I find the Mark I one of the best and most iconic armor from the Iron Man line. Why I didn’t bought the figure back in 2009, is beyond me.
.
I just ordered my first sixth scale figure from Hot Toys as try-out; the Iron Man mark III. So not having this figure in my possession yet (the mark III came out in february 2009), I guess it was too much ordering the mark I. I still was not convinced 12″ figures were the toys for me.
Clothing on the figures were my main concern.
The Hot Toys Wolverine changed all that, but that was a few months later.
.
Back to this figure. Al ready got him pre-ordered. This is a must have for my little Iron Man collection.
Soon I’ll have the mark II, III, V and VI complete with The mark I as topping.
.
Besides, this figure looks kick-ass! The head sculpt of Robert Downey Jr. is just amazing.

So here are the details:

As I mentioned in my review Hot Toys Spider-man, I really like the figure. The Hot Toys Spider-man is just fun.
I recon this figure is no different. Maybe Hot Toys upgraded the figure under the water here and there, but basically for my it’s just the same Spider-man… Just Black.
…With a striking head sculpt of Tobey Maguire
…With an awesome base of Sandman
.
I think I would pass this guy. For me the reasons are:
-The price. This one is almost €80 more that the first Spider-man. I guess most have to do with the head sculpt and the huge sandman base, but come on. I am not paying over €200 for this figure.
-This is not my ‘black’ Spider-man. He was ‘ok’ in the movie, but not as iconic for me as the version in the comics is.
-I rather save my money for the Venom figure. Which I’m hoping they will announce sometime during this year.
Maybe I’ll regret it, this figure does look nice.

Here’s the official:

One of my favorite scenes in Iron Man 2 was the fight on the racetrack in which we first saw the suitcase armor. A nod to the comics wherein Tony Stark hides his Iron Man armor in a suitcase.
One of the fan favorite Iron Man armors featured in the films. The mark V is full of details. Much more than its previous versions. The mark V is supposed to be made of inter-lapsing layers as it’s decompressed from a suitcase size to an cover a human body. The colour scheme is attractive as the red works nice with the silver parts. It’s seems more sophisticated and less ‘hot rod’-like than the red-gold armors. It’s definitely more sleek.
